Sandboxie is now free software
Sandboxie is now free software
Since Sandboxie has been discussed a fair amount in this forum, thought this might be worth noting here - https://www.ghacks.net/2019/09/10/sandb ... en-source/

Re: Sandboxie is now free software
I've mostly* used their free version.
*Mostly.
A number of years back, someone posted a key in their forums, with the post made out to be that it was legit, & from Sandboxie.
Turns out it was not.
Once I realized that, I reported it to Sandboxie. Never heard from them.
But the post, key, shortly disappeared.
Last version I put in was 5.28.
There was a more recent, 5.30, but with Sopho's "takeover" of Sandboxie, I had no trust of (Sophos).
Their (Sophos) "forums" were/are a total joke.
No way to purchase licenses.
No way to take care of existing customer license or other issues.
No meaningful communications from (Sophos).
No meaningful forums.
(I've not looked there, yet, will at some point. Will probably put in whatever this "free" version is, at some point. No big deal to me, only difference would be a few second nag on startup. [Hell, FF Quantum gives me a "free" 5.second delay on startup & Mozilla considers it a "feature" not even worthy of fixing.])
Wonder if they'll have a free key for the latest XP version too?

Re: Sandboxie is now free software
Yes.
https://community.sophos.com/products/s ... rce-update
There is an "unannounced" update, 5.33.6, which they say is unchanged except that they removed "strings" (like stuff that it would identify as Sophos, or whatever).
https://community.sophos.com/products/s ... rce-update
And someone has already put it up on github & "fixed" a bug.
https://github.com/DavidXanatos/Sandbox ... ag/v5.40.1
(Outside of my rambling, more information can be picked up here, https://community.sophos.com/products/sandboxie/f/forum. Check out the most recent threads...)

https://community.sophos.com/products/s ... now-closedThe Sandboxie Forum is now closed
Dear Sandboxie Community,
As announced on our website sandboxie.com, we are now closing down this forum following the release of the Sandboxie source code to the open source community.
[IMPORTANT] Sandboxie Open Source Code is available for download
We’re glad that the community has embraced the open source project on GitHub and that a new Sandboxie thread has been started on Wilders Security Forums. With the creation of this new thread we feel it’s the right time to close down this forum so it can continue elsewhere.
