I don't know if this has been a problem in general but both my windows updates and Microsoft Security Essentials have refused to download and or update for around 2 weeks. As soon as I shut off NoScript both auto updated immediately. Using Windows Vista Home Premium OS.

Can't possibly be related to NoScript, which only acts inside Firefox, so moving to Security.

Do post XP code-based systems allow a choice of browser implementation for manual WinUpdate?

On my Win2003 R2 system, clicking the MS / Win Update links in the Start classic-style panel launches IE despite FF code-based Comodo IceDragon being the default browser.

Background WinUpdate functionality is entirely independent of NoScript.

No.

Expected.

Correct.

Anyhow, MS ("automatic") updates have been screwed up for ages now - for at least Win7 users, & I guess Vista & Win8 can go in that category too - taking ages before anything happens (like a download) & all the while using up lots of CPU.

My "solution": NET STOP WUAUSERV

I have not tried, How do I reset Windows Update components? as there is no reason I should have to - to try to "fix" what MS deliberately sabotaged.
