Parity Begets Final Demise


Now that extension parity exists (now that NoScript can be used) between Firefox & (in) Chrome, just what purpose is left for Firefox?

Why would one chose Firefox over Chrome?

That is a misleading post.

Full extension parity does not exist. Firefox has more extensive WebExtensions APIs. Thus some extensions that are possible in Firefox are not possible in Chrome.

You want to take NoScript as an example? The Chrome version of NoScript does not have XSS filter. Nor does Chrome have all the APIs that are required to implement ABE - https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/doc ... patibility

So I would say, one purpose of using Firefox over Chrome would be for the extensions, e.g. to have the full functionality of NoScript.

Excuse the language but there is a cluster fuck of fragmentation and inconsistencies among the API provided by Chrome or Firefox or <insert giant asshole> and therefore there will NEVER EVER be parity in the sense that everything will run on everything the same way, just won't happen, EVER, anyone tells you otherwise they are full of shit. Fact is that Chrome will never implement things that will cut into their bread and butter and Firefox jumped into this so unprepared and disorganized just so they can say "me too" that they have effectively destroyed the legacy of Firefox by making it a shallow and mediocre copy of everything else. Basically you are at the mercy of whoever wants to give you whatever and that's it.

(Now granted. You still have to be a masochist to use a Quantum browser, be it called "chrome" or "firefox".)

Laugh (or cry depending on how you look at it), it is already there, displaying, by default.
I just didn't realize what it was. I just took it to be a "blob" of white space (in an otherwise homogeneous, nondescript UI).

And (Chrome) doesn't seem to be affected by viewtopic.php?f=10&t=24374.

Extensions are not enabled in Chromium in a Private Window (by default).
But can be enabled (on a per extension basis).

...wenn man ein Alleinstellungsmerkmal rauswirft und die (viel mächtigere) XUL Addon Schnittstelle absägt.

... if you throw out a unique feature and saw off the (much more powerful) XUL addon interface.

Oh, & NoScript now works in "MS Edge" [beta] (aka Chrome).

Chrome does not natively have FAYT (Find As You Type, Type ahead find).
That became glaringly apparent mighty quickly.
