Saving images from Flickr
Saving images from Flickr
I have 2 images of the same campus by different people. One allows you to save the image ,whereas other saves it as a dudly "Spaceball.gif" .Any clues?

I get them both.
8799 gives you multiple size selection & a direct download link.
6138 has only one size & no link, but nothing stops you from right-click, Save Image As.

No I get an irrelevant spaceball.gif for this photo http://www.flickr.com/photos/jaggy/981446138/
What is the name and extension by which you are able to save the file ...that is IF YOU CAN

Re: Saving images from Flickr
Now isn't that strange.
Earlier today, at home, the file came down exactly as expected.
Now, sure enough, spaceball.gif?
So ...
Though this is the image (& should work), http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1285/981 ... bdd143.jpg
So ...
I'm going to guess that it is AdblockPlus. That some filter at home (assuming I'm using differing <aged> filters) is allowing me to "see" the picture, where now all I see are spaceballs. And guessing it is some kind of frame overlaying the actual picture.
Here ...
Adblock Plus, add this blocking rule, http://l.yimg.com/g/images/spaceball.gif
Looks like I've been there before, Saving images from Flickr.

Re: Saving images from Flickr
Hi gentlemen,
Love your work ;-)
Why not simply retrieve the overlaid image from cache?
Right click on any background space on the page, select View Page Info|Media
Alternatively select Tools|Page Info|Media
and find the image in the list there.
You even get a nice Save As button for no extra charge :-)

Re: Saving images from Flickr
In case any one wants to extend an enlightenment on this. I am not able to save the image here, though the same is available thru page info >> media. I am simply not getting "Save image as" option in the right click context over the image (IMG_97111246641037). The same with ABP disallowed ,and the NS for the site allowed.

Re: Saving images from Flickr
In this case, it is going to be something in a "style sheet".
View | Use Style -> None
(I'll assume FF has something similar.)
At that point, the picture "appears".
Which brings us to this:
http://a2zindianews.com/wp-content/them ... styles.css
(Now don't ask me what in that .css causes it to happen?)
So once more, use Adblock Plus to block that css & save away.

Quoth therube
The extension Nuke Anything Enhanced hides those clear overlays very efficiently.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/951
It's one of my core extensions, and in more than 4 years it's never misbehaved.

Re: Saving images from Flickr
Hi .have a look at this site http://family.webshots.com/photo/119668 ... 5899HCZTgX
Using the addon GOL provided "Nuke anything" I removed the objects twice from the picture finally to get the "save image" option. Is there any clue on what are the offending objects that were removed ,so that they can be filtered thru ABP directly.Thanks.
Another one for info .

You need a free registration to get the big sized pictures.Worth it as you have "Others" too.
Now ,I am not able to get anything out of right click (draws a blank) at all until you allow NS. Weird scripting..?

Never would have thought to use that. As there "appeared" to be nothing to nuke. But yes, if you "Remove this object", it does the trick. The extension Nuke Anything Enhanced hides those clear overlays very efficiently.
All kinds of macinations you have to go through with webshots.
Not sure what I was looking at at xusenet.
Will have to look at them later.
