Skylake users given 18 months to upgrade to Win 10

I know this isn't really Web Tech, but it's well worth mentioning here.

It sounds annoying at first glance, but when you pause and consider it, they're not dropping support for older hardware. They're dropping support (in Windows 7) for new hardware. That is to say, they will not try to patch older Windows to make it keep pace with newer CPUs.

That said, it's probably motivated by the desire to push Windows 10. It's an extra, low-pressure angle that they can push, so they're pushing.
