Did you install a New Forum Version (update)?
If so, you need to reset or re-setup the 'View active topics' dialog, as that is no longer returning anything.

Fixed.
It was a PHPBB 3.0.5 -> 3.0.6 database update bug, clearing a flag on all the forums table records, I had to work-around at the SQL level.
