Online status

Post by Tom T. »

I've noticed that the permanent CP setting "Hide my online status" is ineffective. I added "Hide my status for this session" for this session, and still no change.

Is it that Mods cannot hide their status (which is OK with me), or that my name on "Users currently browsing..." is visible only to me? Just curious.

In case anyone is wondering why I would ask, it's because I don't want my gf to know that I am spending hours at an online tech support forum instead of viewing porn as any normal male would ;)

I'm thinking that it is only visible to you?
Assuming you're on right now, I don't see that displayed.

I am on right now, BTW ;-).

I always split my time between forums, porn, music & warez. Just like any red blooded human. (Notice how that excludes martians.)

Don't know. Never tried to hide it on this forum. It's convenient for me to know what other support personnel are online.

Edit:
or that my name on "Users currently browsing..." is visible only to me?
I occasionally see your name listed as "browsing this forum" or "online".

Honored to be considered a "support person"! :) Of course I don't mind the visibility, it's just that like you, Alan, I like to know what makes things tick. One day, I don't know why, I set to "hide" and logged out/in, and noticed that it didn't hide. So that just aroused the natural curiosity instinct.

I notice its inconsistent sometimes. Like I KNOW Alan is online because I am talking to him but I don't see his status but then a few minutes later on a different thread I will see it. I just figure, oh well and figured that mods can see each other when online, even if users can't. Not sure though either way :)

G, thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one who found it a bit puzzling.

No problem bud, I figure if we are around then we will help each other whether we know we are here or not and if not then no harm. Either way, don't put too much stock in it or worry about it, as already stated by our other colleagues :D we often don't even pay attention to the status, I know I don't at least.
