Can you add support for flareGet

Post by adnan »

Hi ,

I would like to ask whether it would be possible that you add support for flareGet, a recently released download manager which works well with flashgot. I just want you to include it in the list of supported download mangers.

http://http://sourceforge.net/projects/flareget/

MOD EDIT, link had extra protocol identifier.

I installed flareGet on Ubuntu from the binary, but I couldn't find the source code and the man page is practically empty.

From what I could understand just by playing with it as a black box, it gets just one command line argument, i.e. the URL to be enqueued.

Am I right? Is there any other interesting option, e.g. to pass cookies?

It has been released 3-4 days back and that also alpha version. So far it is a very simple download manager with lots of bugs. Many advanced features will be added in the later versions. As far as command line arguments are concerned, its only the url as you mentioned.

I took a look and this is far short of anything substantial or functionally complete enough to be considered usable. Maybe when they take the time to complete it and make it more substantial as to live up to the boastful name it has given itself, we can put some effort into it, right now, it seems no more than an incomplete pet project with a GUI that seems to have mimicked Orbit. When it becomes a REAL tool and USEFUL, then we can take another look. Giorgio is too busy to deal with an incomplete, still changing tool that is neither here nor there yet. Its quite premature.

I was googling around for reviews about flareGet, I found this thread and I have to make some things clear :)
flareGet's current release is an 'alpha' that works like a beta!
I know that flareGet is currently looks like a simple download manager but name one for linux that has a frontend, multi-thread downloading, file segemntation with up to 16 segemnts/connections and truly very fast just like IDM Internet Download Manager for Windows!
flareGet doesn't mimick Orbit Downloader, actually flareGet and Orbit Downloader both mimicks IDM! xD

Well that's my point of view as I've searched many times for an IDM true alternative Linux app but didn't found any :(
P.S DownThemAll isn't bugfree yet to be considered an option, also doesn't have multi-thread downloading up to 16 segments (only up to 10).

I aplogize if I spoke out of context.

The beta version of flareGet is about to be released. It has undergone a full change in its segmentation algorithm. The beta version will be featuring a dynamic file segmentation algorithm, with support for changing number of segments during download, lots of bug fixes, Http-pipelining etc.
Now, while trying to download youtube videos, there seems to be a naming problem. Does flashgot support naming of video files downloaded from youtube. I mean if the name could be passed as a command line argument. Some addons like easy youtube downloader provide the file name at the end of url like "...title=video file name", which makes it easy to get file name.

Yes, FlashGot can add the name as a command line argument. Just tell me the syntax.

The syntax will be:
flareGet <url> <filename>

OK, will be in next release, but you can start testing it by creating a custom download manager entry with

Code: Select all

[URL] [FNAME]
as its command line template.

The beta version of flareGet is out. You can test it for your next release.

I have added support for many options. The command line options look different now:

flareGet [URL] [-o FNAME] [-c COOKIE] [-l CFILE] [-a USERPASS] [-u UA] [-r REFERER] [-d POST]
