Mouse response slow after Flashgot installed

Post by hatman »

I like this add-on! ;) Hope my problem can be solved.

Mozilla Firefox 3.0.8, English (US). I'm using FlashGot 1.1.8.5

When Right clicking mouse, menu has a couple second or longer delay before appearing. Disabling Flashgot solved the problem.

Other add-ons All are the latest versions.

Download helper,AdBlockPluss,Canadian English Dictionary,Colorfultabs,Cooliris,Coolpreviews,CustomizeGoogle,
Downthenall,foxytunes,GoogleToolBar,IE-Tab,Microsft Net Framework Manager,OpenItOnline,PDF Download,ScreenGrab,Sortplaces,Speed Dial,Stop Autoplay,TabMix Plus,X-Marks,Yahoo Tool Bar.

I have seen a delay before the (or before all the) FlashGot menu items appear (so that you may need to right-click, ESC, right-click again - guess I'm just a quick right-clicker), but I have not seen an overall delay to right-click actions caused by FlashGot.

For me checking the setting FlashGot Options|Menu Tab|Compact context menu (use submenu if needed) Checkbox did the trick and no delays or anything else noticeable. Hope that helps.

I turned Flashgot back on. I unchecked all the features under options that were selected. The response was still slow. My best guess is interference between it and another add-on is causing the problem. I do not do many downloads so I have deactivated Flashgot and will try again next time Flashgot is updated. I do a lot of cut and paste so the delay is an aggravation. Might not bother a lot of people.

And is it only in FF where this slowness occurs?
Not in any other applications outside of FF?
And you're on Vista? Is that x64?

It just happens with Firefox and not with any other applications. I tried Google Chrome and there was no delays.

I'm using Vista Ultimate X64.

This is so bizarre. I have alot of add-ons (not tons but still) and I do alot of cut and paste and things that require relatively quick response to my commands and I have not faced this issue. I have Flashgot, TDA, NoScript, RequestPolicy, Brief, DownloadStatusbar, ScribeFire and a couple of others with relatively high overhead and I don't face this. I would be interested in finding out what is causing this as I am hard pressed to think its a FlashGot issue.

x64 OS have the inherent problem that if the application is not build to specifically use its 64bit architecture, it process it as 32bit through WOW64 which is just a conduit if you will, overtly simplified for the sake of discussion but still, this can cause issues with speed actually and reliability but should not be isolated "generally" to ONE application, although it could technically, depending on how it is written. Do you have a way to test your exact Fx setup on another system that is purely 32bit and see if this can be replicated?

I have another system that I am building and am going to install Vista 32bit. I`ll install all the same add-ons and will report back the results.

I think I will remove Flashgot and then I will reinstall it.

;) Thanks.

I removed Flashgot and reinstalled it. Still has a delay. I'll get back once the new system is built.

You a navy Seal? I like this belt buckle. ;)

That's a good looking buckle but although we are kin to the seals, I am a Marine. 8-)
