Can "Forbid Adobe Flash" be ADDED to Trusted/Whitelisted?

Post by emarkay »

Somewhere in the NoScript Options config dialog? This one small change would eliminate the need for any "Flashblocker" add-ons or extensions.

No Script nicely allows immediate allowing of things defaulted as blocked already, and any temporary need for this annoying Internet "feature" can be permitted on a case-by-case basis. This is already how a "Flashblocker" add-on works. A few separate "clicks" per session are worth greatly the distraction-free browsing without all the general Flash "eyespam".

Thank you, and thanks to the developers and supporter of NoScript.

PS: And as soon as I find employment, there's a bunch of FF Add-On developers I need to contribute to; NoScript is at the top of the list!

How about blocking any plugin (note, plugins are not the same as add-ons for Firefox and Flash/Silverlight/Java are plugins)? You can default-block plugins and this way make them click-to-play (if they are not collapsed [which they are if you activate certain options]).

Using noscript.allowedMimeRegExp you might then again exempt certain plugins from this.

Yes, but that's a completely different issue. And it's easy to enable/disable plugins from the "Tools/Add-ons" dialog anyway.

Ok, then I misunderstood you. I thought you wanted to set up NoScript so that it also works like Flashblock.

...Confused... Flashblock just "Stops" all Flash and replaces it with a " clickable placeholder" an arrow in a circle. It does nothing else and if you enable the "arrows" it becomes transparent. What would be nice for NoScript is just the ability to block Flash on ALL sites selectively. Sure even having some "Clickable" enabling would be nice, but I know 90% of the sites I visit with Flash I never "click to enable it" anyway!

I still fail to understand whether your request is covered by NoScript Options|Embedding|Apply these restrictions to whitelisted sites as well, and if not why.

Yes, but since Flash is "such" a n annoyance I thought it may "Deserve" its own config settings - I don't want to block it ALONG with Java Iframes and Other Plugins, too - as that's already blocked for non-whitelisted sites.
For whitelisted sites as I prefer a default to be "No Flash" and then I can whitelist it to be "Yes Flash".
