[FIXED] something being blocked (solved in this instance)

Post by aocab »

Every once in a while I will hit a webpage where something embedded doesn't work.

I allow everything in NoScript and turn off AdBlock Plus and it still does not work.

Ex. For me the Soundcloud plugin does not play audio on this page:

http://wsvaonline.com/podcasts/nathan-n ... trumpcare/

Even with AdBlock Plus disabled and everything allowed in NoScript.

The plugin works fine in safe mode (Firefox).

In this instance I did manage to get it working.

On the lower left side of the plugin was a link to their cookie policy.

When I went to that page another blocked item ( sndcdn.com ) showed up in NoScript.

Allowing the new item ( sndcdn.com ) got the plugin to work.

In instances like this what is the best course of action to help determine what is being blocked?

Thanks in advance for any insights.
Cheers

Here are some screenshots that show what I am trying to explain and figure-out

Adblock is disabled on the page

This one is from the page where soundcloud audio does not play
I assume the noscript S means scripts are allowed
and I do not see anything being blocked

http://imgbox.com/v0EAMKsH

This is from soundcloud's page regarding their cookie policy
with sndcdn.com being blocked

http://imgbox.com/kqBKhmye

After allowing sndcdn.com the soundcloud plugin audio plays in the previous page
Though Nosctipt does not list the page in it's list

http://imgbox.com/cl8ksJWJ

Here is another example from another page
I assume by the S that scripts are allowed
but footprint.net is being blocked

http://imgbox.com/qbMVb7wx

*tried to include the pics but I kept getting a message about the spam filter being triggered

No problem neither do I.

I'm probably over looking something simple or not quite understanding what is going on.
It appears to me that NoScript is blocking something without giving any indication on what is being blocked.

The webpage I mentioned works in Firefox's safe mode.
It also works after allowing everything on the page plus sndcdn.com which is not in the blocked list.

In your screenshot of the NoScript menu on soundcloud, you have two indications something was blocked by NoScript -

1) The NoScript icon has the little red circle-slash in its bottom right.

2) "Temporarily allow sndcdn.com" in the NoScript menu.

I think your other screenshots show a NoScript bug. Please try upgrading NoScript to version 5.0.1 and let us know if any change.

I am running NoScript 5.0.1.

In answer to 1) and 2):

That is what I refer to as Page2 (the page w/their cookie policy).
Page1 is the page with the soundcloud plugin that does not play audio.

I don't understand why I have to allow sndcdn.com on Page2
in order for audio to work in the soundcloud plugin on Page1.

sndcdn.com is not in Page1's block list.

Odd, that bug should be fixed in 5.0.1. Does disabling all extensions other than NoScript get it working? (Tools > Add-ons Manager)

I disabled all plugins except NoScript and I still have to allow sndcdn.com (from another page) to get the plugin to play the audio. Works fine in safe-mode.

page1 / no audio / no sndcdn.com in block list

page2 with sndcdn.com in block list

page1 / working audio after allowing sndcdn.com on page2 / sndcdn.com not in block list

Thanks!

I went to the site and confirm the problem. On that page, in terms of active content, sndcdn.com is only the destination of XMLHttpRequest. It does not actually include scripts. Setting about:config > noscript.forbidXHR to 0 also works.

Moving bug report to NoScript Development.

Fixed here. Also fixed on another site ( podomatic.com ) I was about to mention.

Thank you.

I don't know, it must be my settings or something because I came across another site where the S icon
indicates nothing is being blocked and three sites are blocked.

That is a different issue, and a long-standing one - viewtopic.php?f=7&t=19729
