Noscript for Google Chrome?

I generally use my browser for 2 things, surfing, and webdev testing. Ever since Chrome came out, the only thing that keeps me using Firefox for surfing is the lack of noscript for Chrome. I've been real curious about why there havn't been very many addons written for the Chrome browser considering the opensource nature of that project and the generally warm reception it has had in the community.

Does anyone know if there are any major barriers to coding addons for Chrome that don't exist for Firefox?

Yes, the API for extensions is not complete yet, but I've been already contacted by the Google Chrome engineers who are trying to close this gap, because they really want both NoScript and FlashGot on Chrome.

That would be sweet. Although Chrome has its charm, there is just something about using it naked makes me uncomfortable.

I hope you'll be getting licensing fees for that?

Uh? I'm supposed to do the porting (if I want to), but no fees involved.
And both are free software up to current versions, so anybody could try to do it and I wouldn't get a penny.
So long for those calling me "greedy".

But look at all those Chrome users who will be maliciously re-directed to NS Home page, with all its ads! ... (not funny). I wish those who called you "greedy" would read the above post. But, "never try to teach a pig to sing"..

Any update on NoScript running on Chrome?

The reason I'm asking is because I saw this article today, I'm not exactly sure, but it looks like extensions are now enabled in Google Chrome??!

Yeah they added theme support but nothing on the addon front yet. I am sure when it is done, Giorgio will let us know with a post on his blog or on the forum.

Oh wow, just found this. What about stuff like this? http://www.chromeplugins.org/category/extensions/ Seems like it's building steam.

The dev channel for chrome accepts extesions now, you can get it at http://www.google.com/chrome/eula.html?extra=devchannel. Inorder to enable them you must add "--enable-extensions" in the shortcut's target section.

There is a adblockish like extension for chrome called adsweep, though no longer being maintained it does work very well. Currently there is no GUI setup to manage extensions like in firefox instead you have to type "chrome://extensions" in the address bar.

I've been using the dev copy of chrome for a while and it is very stable, I use chrome more than Firefox now days and I really hope google keeps doing good and maybe one day it will have a lot of great extensions like Firefox has.

PS: Sorry I am not sure how to do thumbnails of the pictures, but they should load very quickly(hopefully).

I believe the last (or perhaps next to last) Chrome release fixed an XSS related vulnerability.
When I saw that, I thought to myself, NoScript likely would have handled that straight out.

This may have been it, Mozilla credited with discovering exploitable Google Chrome 2 flaw.

Is there any update on this?

Extensions can now be submitted to google, and the extensions menu+interface has been fully implemented in the latest development build.

Chrome's extension API is currently too much limited to support even NoScript's core feature.
For instance, there's no way to disable JavaScript from extension's code or to intercept plugin loading.
However I'm still keeping an eye on its future developments.

Chrome Extensions Gallery Officially Opens

https://chrome.google.com/extensions

Any update in Chrome that may let NoScript be viable? (Or maybe even an alternative approach?)

Perhaps something like FlashBlock or Flash Block, or even Adblock+?
https://chrome.google.com/extensions/de ... bcaignabnl Flash Block
https://chrome.google.com/extensions/de ... gffbjijcie FlashBlock
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/46974 AdBlock+ for Chrome

I played around with Chrome and extensions for a while today. Wow, I like it. Very, very nice.

Unfortunately, I'll never fully make the switch without NoScript
