Re: Beginner Questions
Hi Gregory G. I apologise for writing so much at a level that was probably too much information. Most people learn by doing, not reading, and I think you will probably benefit a lot by trying things, and breaking them, and then fixing them, yourself. That's how I learned most things I know, not just...

Re: Flash Cookies
Not allowing Flash to create and use temporary files can break some sites. Usability is enhanced if they are removed when you're done instead. Since the boards are wonderfully quiet, I used my NS time to try a few different Flash servings on this machine with any writing to the ~/.macromedia/Flash_...

Re: ABE Problem
This is what I did: Using NS 1.9.8.1, with no scripts allowed, I linked straight to http://www.alcohol-soft.com/ without any error messages from ABE. The IP that the url linked to was in the range 195.137.236.0-23, Mermaid Consulting ApS, if that's where you wanted to link. Can you confirm that this...

Re: Beginner Questions
Hi, Most browser password managers are for convenience, not security, and it's the user's decision about what kinds of use those passwords could be put to if hacked whether they want to use managers. For general web use, over unencrypted connections, it really doesn't worry me personally whether pas...

Re: Flash Cookies
NOTE FOR Fx 3.5.x USERS Objections extension installation will be blocked by the Extensions Manager - reason given is incompatibility with 3.5.x. I overrode the compatibility flag to test it and found the straightforward settings UI alone makes it worthwhile - - because I have found in the past tha...

Re: Pull down menu display
Confirmed in a clean default profile with a default NS 1.9.8.1 as the only extension. The second screenshot is confusing wrt the description: there appear to be other extensions besides NS installed, and the NS settings appear to be customised. If the object of the report is to help Giorgio to fix s...

Re: Flash Cookies
Not allowing Flash to create and use temporary files can break some sites. Of course mileage may vary :-) but I'd feel bad not sharing what I know. I had the #SharedObjects write protected in OS X for a couple of years without noticing any access problems to sites. But then I've never been a big us...

Re: Flash Cookies
I use BetterPrivacy . Thanks Alan Baxter. If an OS X - or any system at all - user simply wants to prevent any Flash cookies setting, there is the simple method of changing the permissions on the Macromedia directory or sub directory to read-only. Or what about ditching the directory and replacing ...

Not useful in this case with an OP using OS Xor a manual remover like Flash Cookie Remover.

Re: Global installation fails for FX 3.0.13
That line of code won't succeed unless you are running as root and have a path to the directory where your NS xpi is. And even then, success is a very varied thing across various linux distros according to the quick search I just did. I don't think it's limited to NS. And the NS permissions are, in ...

Anyway, why not help him when he gets to the thread, by doing the elimination of settings and/or other addons?
You're in the driver's seat here. And therube if you can persuade him :-)
Probably busy, as always :-)I do not know what Giorgio has to say ....

Re: Sticky Business
Whatever refreshes happen, I can always get access to the menu items at any of the steps, but you can't at the last step so... We are against a page refresh at this point ...Right? Of course the page refreshes at each change of permissions in my setup. That's normal/expected behaviour for NS. It ap...

Re: Sticky Business
Quoth therube: (just whose bug is it anyhow) Ha! Looks like it's yours now :-) The status bar "artifact" (Status Bar Label placeholder?) shows here too in the clean profile NS-only test. The thing "pushes" the icon westwards as it is populated with script messages. I recall tryin...
