Firefox links: help yourself

For newer Firefox users, here are a few chosen links from the MozillaZine Knowledge Base that may help with some of the more usual configuration and usability problems that have been raised in here. Firefox - General Firefox Index Firefox links Firefox FAQs Firefox Troubleshooting Firefox Portable F...

Re: Discussion: Site Specific Permissions Policy

Hmm, a deadlinks check on that hackademix link http://hackademix.net/2008/01/12/malware-20-is-now/ reveals that the first link out to the commentary on the Italian bank's XSS is broken. It's still up at the wayback machine http://web.archive.org/web/20080214120630/http://portal.spidynamics.com/blogs...

Re: Discussion: Site Specific Permissions Policy

Quoth Alan Baxter: Sandboxie protects your system's integrity from malware without having to evaluate it Ahem, Sandboxie plus NS/Fx - - there's no hiding inside any sandbox from active exploits that use the web, as opposed to your operating system. http://hackademix.net/2008/01/12/malware-20-is-now/

Re: Discussion: Site Specific Permissions Policy

...Certainly plugin whitelisting is not as finely controllable. I would say that many particular site requirements for plugin whitelisting could be met by a user creating a profile for this kind of whitelisting. Sorry, I rambled on and on in my previous post. I should have simply said that it would...

The NS version archive is at the AMO site
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... rsions/722
You are most strongly advised not to run any but the latest version of NS

Re: script errors

Would you like to get the latest development version of NS - see the sticky link at the top of this forum - and undertake a Standard Diagnostic, as in the MozillaZine KB article http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox If your problems persist after that, return with an outline of the...

Re: Discussion: Site Specific Permissions Policy

It is generally agreed that disabling unneeded software features reduces the attack surface, so the more features that are disabled, the less attack surface there is. Of course, reducing the attack surface is a good thing, even for trusted sites. That's the basic state of NS already; all JS, and as...

Re: noscript icon not in notification area follwing update

Hi tamba1, The sticky post at the top of the support forum has the most efficient method of troubleshooting for you: http://forums.informaction.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1431&start=0 Without running the Standard Diagnostic, finding a fix is very difficult for most Fx users. A new profile is of...

Re: Menu position too far right to read

Any Ideas? Hmm, how annoying. First idea: Can you update to the latest Fx, 3.5.2? Second idea: Can you get the latest development version of NS and retest your problem, with Fx 3.5.2? That's how the developer works on bugs, per his latest version, not latest AMO version. It's no less stable than th...

Re: content thieves

Hi simmad, Nothing in code will prevent published text getting copied by a determined person; it's just that NS made it simple for your shoutbox correspondent. NS is primarily an application whose spirit has always been to give the user more control over the internet, not less . The various online c...

@max I'm sorry it's not working without bugs for your system. You may do a lot better by participating in launchpad, if you want support for Adobe Flash in Ubuntu. This thread is a good example of the kind of help you may be able to muster up in there https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fir...

Re: [RESOLVED] 1.9.8 causing browser to get stuck on some sites

General post re UBUNTU and ADOBE FLASH running in Fx First: there is generally an addon running at the same time as NS in Fx 3.0.13 - Ubuntu Firefox Modifications. it's supposed to simply regularise package management so that updates to extensions can be flagged through Synaptic. However it does muc...

Re: close tab click interception

NoScript blocks the popup. No it doesn't. At least here it doesn't, not with it's options as they are configured here; e.g., "Temporarily allow top-level sites by default" Someone should poll how users configure NoScript. Blanket claims like "NoScript blocks the popup" are neith...

Re: Octoshape stream

@ therube The page wants to run their own signed Java "enhancer" applet. I got that far when I linked to get a quick idea of their setup. The applet is seen as a flash-related plugin-ey thingy by NS. And it's separate from the main flash flick. Not prepared to let octomom or whoever run an...
