Re: MS sneaks in a Fx add-on at machine level!
It did install on my XPx64 machine. I can disable, but not uninstall. I just accepted the critical security updates. I usually criticize them, but I wanted to see if just installing those security updates did it, that aforementioned .NET 3.5 SP1 I am sure. No prompt about .NET that I noticed. Some g...

Re: MS sneaks in a Fx add-on at machine level!
I have to agree with therube and dhouwn here. Guardian, just because you haven't seen it, doesn't mean that others are doing anything wrong. I update windows everyday for users and have never seen a .NET option other than the option in Windows Update about whether or not to install it. I also...

Re: noobie tutorial video
I am weak on XSS, but wouldn't that require linking in? Like from an email? If I go to the bank website directly, does XSS still apply? If so, does that mean the website is hacked? As I understand it, XSS is a "window" you look through at the site in question, so any clicks and data entry ...

Re: NoJava
I think just disabling java in the adobe reader is the best answer. But in response to you, if I apply those restrictions to trusted sites, why trust them in the first place? Simple scripting still works but no "plugins?" Isn't it usually the plugin's that people want to see in the first p...

NoJava
Maybe what we need is a more general form of noscript. One that can protect across browsers, anything that runs Java. Too bad it really isn't "Java" per se. But after seeing this: http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/165031/pdf_flaw_patched_but_does_anybody_know.html I wonder if w...

Re: noobie tutorial video
I can see it now, "So what if they know where I've been?" Not all of them secretly surf for pr0n. ;) I can see that it is a bit disturbing, but those concerned about their history should be clearing it anyway. The site needs to show why it is important. Got my bank website? Sure. Got my ac...

Re: noobie tutorial video
I wish I had the time to train my customers Nan, I usually cannot even speak to them before they take their PC home other than the basics of what I did to repair their computer. So, I am looking to dumb-down the interface to neophyte level. Explaining IP's, domains, XSS and so forth is beyond their ...

Re: noobie tutorial video
a little off topic, but this blocks adblock. Interesting... so users can't see your site until they disable adblock or whitelist your site.

Re: noobie tutorial video
I hadn't thought about moving the icon, that makes sense. Single click works for just top level domain right? That's great for novices! Why isn't that standard? I even like the ietab icon better there as well. I used to show users the global allow so they wouldn't get pissed of when they couldn't bu...

Re: Trojan Alert on Ajaxian website
Well, actually I meant that it slowed me down while I was scanning infected drives with other scanning engines, I run three of them for that. Vipre would scan in 20 minutes, AVG in 45, Norton in about an hour, but you couldn't turn it off completely. So it was always scanning in the background whene...

Re: Trojan Alert on Ajaxian website
safe practice is better than ANY antivirus program though. If I had a dollar for everytime I heard, "But I thought Norton was supposed to protect me!" I have an Antivirus... for scanning. All resident shields are disabled usually. I hate them killing my files and slowing don my PC. But we ...
