I did a reset, allowed my page and allowed local links. All the same. After clicking on a file:/// link , NS switches the javascript on this page off. Againg the hostname is in [ ] brackets.
Update: just tried this on a new profile and it does not do it. Probably a clash with some other extension.

I upgraded to 1.9.7.3 and STILL have problems with file:///
