Yes, these other reports describe very similar situations. Many (not all?) of the videos embedded in theguardian.com exhibit this behavior. It only happens when the video is fullscreen. Right, of course. Disabling NoScript has no effect on the problem. It looks like it's related to Adblock Plus--now I have some investigating to do. Thanks for pointing out what I should have done to begin with!
