Confirmed: xdpyinfo was reporting my resolution as 1680x1680. (I guess it chose a resolution large enough to contain the screen whichever way it was rotated?) Running xrandr --fb 1050x1680 made the menus start do to the right thing again. Didn't even have to restart Firefox.

The menus for both the status bar icon and status bar label are appearing partially offscreen, as if my monitor were wider than it actually is.
