Re: Need NoScript like never before....

It is a pity that most pre-link scanners and specifically reputation scanners do not do you much good in predicting whether a reputable trusted site has been fallen victim to these exploits I don't know of any actual cases, but someone pointed out that as infrequently as McAfee revisits sites for S...

Re: unknown domains - can you tell user if it's 'safe'-ish??

You'd be amazed how often that logic is wrong. Dell was hacked for 3 weeks and they didn't know it and when they found out, they didn't know how to fix it. I heard about Kaspersky, but I didn't hear about Dell. Yeah, it's pretty depressing. And while I've never tried to find a contact link on Dell'...

Re: Stopping Redirect Ads

...I'd love to know who downloaded the malware in the first place and from where (shared work computer), Why are you going to all those sites on the company's computer and time? :P lol, I haven't seen anyone doing personal websurfing there, but since the computer is on a desk used by a part time em...

Re: unknown domains - can you tell user if it's 'safe'-ish??

It's safe on a site like NYT to give each one a temporary okay and see which ones actually are useful Not if the site has been hacked. Don't assume a 3rd party script from an unknown site is benign. Check it out in WOT or Site Advisor first. Very true, I was just assuming a site as heavily used as ...

Re: Need NoScript like never before....

I've run into the hidden iFrame on the website for my daughter's dance school. I reported it to them, but they haven't managed to get it cleaned up yet. In fact, I got the domain it directed to shut down, and now the code points to a new one. As far as the Avast vs. AVG vs. Avira, I'm using Avira (p...

Re: unknown domains - can you tell user if it's 'safe'-ish??

If you're visiting a trusted domain like New York Times, it's not a question of safety so much as privacy and annoyance. I want animated news videos but not animated ads. You will tend to learn from experience which domains are required for the content and which are only needed for the ads. You'll a...

Re: Stopping Redirect Ads

I ran into similar behavior recently on a computer that had several types of malware, including Vundo. Avira wasn't detecting it (nor was it getting updates, as it had not received the recent major upgrade with enhanced rootkit protection). Malwarebytes antimalware wouldn't even install. I finally b...

Re: Thanks from a Seamonkey user

Thanks, the bestwhole.com link cascade is from a posting on NANAS, so it works for anyone. I just made the link in the forum non-clickable so as not to provide a search engine boost for them. You should be able to copy and paste into your browser. (There's one reason I like Seamonkey; you can copy a...

Re: Thanks from a Seamonkey user

I found an example on NANAS (news.admin.net-abuse.sightings, where other people's spam is often posted) https : //www.bestwhole.com/NTIxNHwxMTg0fDEyMzIxOXx2Mg==/r?a=NA-Naughtyor+NiceMIKE1120size134kb-112108%7E%7E7293%7E%7Ed99ef50f11bec1913cd00592521247db%7E%7E&p=%5B%271184%27%5D [blocks Malzilla...

Re: Thanks from a Seamonkey user

I had posted that example because the NoScript option to block meta refresh didn't stop it, and I just tried with RefreshBlocker, and that didn't stop it either. It doesn't use the "refresh" tag at any point.

Re: Thanks from a Seamonkey user

Caveat up front: I'm not a programmer and don't know too much html, so I'm combining a little knowledge with numerous personal observations, and I may be off track here. There are actually two modes of redirecting to a new page -- "refresh," which is slow enough to stop manually, and "...

Re: smilies!

It's pretty important to understand who posted a message when you go to answer it. Are they regulars, so you can assume they know certain things, or are they newbies? And for the regulars, by noticing what they have posted in the past you form an idea of what their background knowledge is. For insta...

Thanks from a Seamonkey user

Hi, I'm new on this forum. I just wanted to say thanks for making NoScript available for Seamonkey, even including the nighly builds. I do a lot of spam investigation, and I am a lot more at ease checking out a spammed domain if I've got some control over scripts that may be hiding there. I've insta...
