Thanks for your help. The ppa does indeed show me that the package is xorg-server..2:1.7.6-2ubuntu8~lp539772. However Synaptic installed two packages titled xserver-common and xserver-xorg-core, both with the version number shown above. Am I correct in assuming that these were sub-components of the ...

I've just applied the Bryce Harrington patch. It seems to have fixed the crash problem for me :-) However , being a relative newbie, I'm not confident that I added the ppa in the approved manner. Similar thing happening here. Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. Firefox 3.6.3. NoScript 1.9.9.71 If I visit a website for the first time and click on the NoScript Options button to allow the site all is OK.
