If I am just using trial and error to make it work, how do I know which "trial" sites I "trust" I should NOT be trusting?
Seems to defeat the purpose of having NoScript.
What am I missing?
Let me add a couple of things. For one, if I am going to use a site to make payments, where I am going to write personal sensitive information, I have to trust it. I am not talking about trusting it with NoScript but I mean, really trust that the site is honest and bona fide. If its supposed to be from your bank, make sure it is from your bank.
The other thing, about trial and error. Once you do that for a site you visit regularly, is basically done for good. Next time you visit it, you wonrt need to do nothing. No trial and error is needed anymore. Most sites stay put forever. Some change, and you have to play the cat and mouse game but most dont do that. I also find that most sites are fairly easy to figure out as the names of the domains usually tell the story of what the domain does. Also, most sites only display a few domains. And as you practice trialing and error with your bookmarked sites, by the time you done with them, the rest of the internet becomes easier.
I basically set up to the max all sites I visit on a regular basis, and since I have created a large black list based on where I go, (I black list domains that I see all over the place that dont need for nothing anywhere), when I need to temporarily allow something, the list of domains that I have to cherry pick from, is smaller, because of the black list.
Look at this site. In my opinion, something like this is what you want to do with NoScript and your bookmarked sites. It takes patience and time to learn to do this but in the end, that's what you really want to do with NoScript. Most sites are nice and clean but the site I am using for the example is a nasty site that I visit regularly. Thats done to the max with NoScript. People who visit the site without NoScript or good protection like Sandboxie, can get infected just by visiting it. On the other hand, because of the way I set it up, the sharks in the site become sardines, that cant touch me. HTH.
