Yep. You have to uncheck "Forbid Java" in Plugins in order to see the Java applet (d'oh! -- not you, therube, just d'oh, you have to unforbid Java for a Java applet to run). The "dancing Duke" logo is a Java Applet. Unless you uncheck "Forbid Java", or uncheck "Apply... to trusted sites too", with Java.com in your whitelist, no applet, no Dancing Duke.

Yes, very much like Flash. I can have YouTube whitelisted, but Flash blocked. When I want to see a certain video, just click/allow that placeholder *only*. Same idea.

I used to use Java for online poker (play money), and some Yahoo games, e. g., TextTwist. Only use now is for Hushmail, which is the only sensible way to send anything remotely sensitive through email if you're not a PGP or GPG-monkey. So Java stays forbidden. Used to have to uncheck it at Hushmail, but recently, I can just use that same "TA Blocked Object" that we talked about re: Yahoo Mail Attachments, and not have to remember to re-check "Forbid Java" when done.

Thank you, my point exactly. From http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml, "How do I test whether Java is working on my computer?" (didn't want to take the time for a screenshot)

Test your JVM

[NS BLOCKED PLACEHOLDER LOGO HERE = DynamicJavaPopUp819.class]

This page tests to see if Java is working on your computer. This test applet, written with Java technology, displays information about your operating system, the JVM and the Java version. If you can see the dancing Duke logo image animated in the applet above, then Java is functioning correctly. If your applet is not displaying properly, please check these additional configurations.

1. Enable Java through your Web browser
2. Enable Java through the "Java Plug-in Control Panel"
3. Clearing your Web Browser Cache

Do you get a placeholder that you need to click before the Java executes?

Not true. I have Forbid Java set and all I needed to do to get this to work was simply temporarily allow java.com nothing more.

Whitelisting scripting from java.com isn't enough. You have to allow Java by unchecking "Forbid Java" in NS > Options > Plugins (or else uncheck "Apply these restrictions to trusted sites too" if Java.com is completely whitelisted, i. e., trusted).

For maximum safety, remember to re-check these restrictions after you leave the java.com site.

Not sure what your issue is but I just went there, temporarily allowed and bam less than 11 seconds later showed everything fine,
as you can see below:

So there might be some other issue with your Java setup or browser plugins being corrupted.

1. Try the latest dev build
2. Update your java and make sure the installation is not broken
3. Perform standard diagnostics to see if something else is conflicting

java.com test hangs

Firefox hangs (hogs 100% CPU) if you visit
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml
with NoScript Enabled, and either java.com whitelisted or Allow Scripts Globally.
With NoScript Disabled (Tools=>Add-ons) the page loads fine.

Any ideas what is going on (or not going on)?

NoScript 1.9.2
Firefox 2.0.0.20 Linux
Java 1.5.0_17-b04
