Yep. You have to uncheck "Forbid Java" in Plugins in order to see the Java applet (d'oh! -- not you, therube, just d'oh, you have to unforbid Java for a Java applet to run). The "dancing Duke" logo is a Java Applet. Unless you uncheck "Forbid Java", or uncheck "Apply... to trusted sites too", with Java.com in your whitelist, no applet, no Dancing Duke.
Yes, very much like Flash. I can have YouTube whitelisted, but Flash blocked. When I want to see a certain video, just click/allow that placeholder *only*. Same idea.
I used to use Java for online poker (play money), and some Yahoo games, e. g., TextTwist. Only use now is for
Hushmail, which is the only sensible way to send anything remotely sensitive through email if you're not a PGP or GPG-monkey. So Java stays forbidden. Used to have to uncheck it at Hushmail, but recently, I can just use that same "TA Blocked Object" that we talked about re: Yahoo Mail Attachments, and not have to remember to re-check "Forbid Java" when done.
