@rockmydreambot: by the look of your screenshots it seems Firefox doesn't manage to overwrite the add-ons file(s).

Can you try to completely uninstall NoScript and reinstall it?

If this fails, we may try to manually remove the files from the profile...

Good luck and let me know.

NS stops working

by saladgoat » Fri Mar 27, 2020 2:43 pm

Firefox 74.0
NoScript 11.0.22

Just updated and it's still doing it.
This has been going on for a week or two.
Firefox is set to auto-update plugins, so I don't know on which version it started.
I'll just be browsing the interwebs as usual and then all of a sudden here's some ridiculous monstrosity that has never been on this page before. I look up and the NS icon is missing. Odd. I go to my plugins to see what's wrong. According to that page, it's still enabled. But it's not working.
So I disable it then enable it again. The icon reappears and I can reload the page and the monstrosity is gone.
But how long have I been "surfing", how many pages have I seen, where JavaScript has been allowed to run rampant - but silent - before I came to this page where it is obvious?
I wish I had more information about where and when this happens, but the great thing about NS is that it runs in the background and doesn't need me, so I never even think about it, and don't notice it until it's missing.

I haven't installed any new Extensions in the time when this started happening, so unless an update to another extension, or to NS, caused cross-contamination, it can't be a problem with that. Here's what I have:
Download Sound
DownThemAll!
Honey
I don't care about cookies
LastPass
Livemarks
NoScript

Hopefully this bug can be fixed soon, because I feel vulnerable knowing NS can stop at any moment and I won't know it.
Thanks!

I restarted Firefox and the icon returned. I hope it stays this time.

I've got same problem.
NoScript 11.0.23 installed from addons.mozilla.org
It is not because of customize, the icon isn't present anywhere. not on the extended menu, not in unused buttons, not on main menu (sorry, don't know actual names of locations, I'm using Firefox with Russian localisation). It looks what addon just stopped working. Can't see it in browser's task manager list. Also with no icon it looks I don't have to allow scripts on any domains, it is just working as I don't have No Script installed in my browser.
If I restart my Firefox it comes back and working but after some time it will disappear again.

small update:
if I turn it off and then back on using about:addons page the icon will reappear and addon will work again. But I think it will crash again after some time, just like with browser restart.

See if it might not be in Customize?
See if it might not turn up if... you restart? you disable all other extensions except for NoScript?

I lost the uBlock icon just the other day.
Had to remove & reinstall it.

As the title states, the icon for NoScript just up and disappeared this morning. I don't see it anywhere.
