Try Safe Mode.
If that works, then look for an extension conflict.

After I upgraded to firefox 5 Noscript disappeared from context menu, navigation bar and addon bar. I tried to find it trough "Customise" Dialog Box. Unfortunately it was not there too. Desperately I uninstalled Noscript and re-installed it. Not worked....
Please suggest me a solution to bring Noscript at least to context menu. Please repair this bug with an upgrade...

Is it listed among extensions (Tools|Add-ons|Extensions)?

Are you using FF 5.0 or 5.0.1 ?

for me, the icon is not just disappearing, the whole addon is being uninstalled, along with ABP. Those are the only 2 addons that do it, and its seemingly random(at least where I have not found a pattern). It does not seem to happen after updates, and I am using FF 6.0.2, so i dont know what is going on, but having those two addons completely uninstall at random(I am the only one who uses this computer), and then having to reinstall them is quite annoying. I cannot find a reason why they uninstall at all without user input.

These are weird symptom, which may hint either at a corrupted profile or at some misbehaved add-on. Which other add-ons are you using, beside ABP and NoScript?

With my last upgrade, NoScript moved back into the Customize panel and off my Navigation bar. I had to move it back manually.

Reporting a "disappear" that happened immediately after accepting auto-upgrade to 7.0.

Steps to produce "disappear":

Restarted Fx 6.x at Upgrade Manager prompt.
Accepted Mozilla pop-over request at Fx 7.0 start for memory/general machine data.
Got returned to previous session - but with all scripting and plugins running on a page where I've never whitelisted anything.
Check up at nav bar for icon status - no icon.
Resisted using keyboard NS toggles in favour of seeing what remained on the profile.
Check add-on manager - no NS entry
Check about:config - still displaying noscript non-default prefs, however no default noscript prefs shown. - for all the world as if NS had been uninstalled.
Check profile. NS appears to be still there in extensions folder.

Steps to produce "reappear":
Begin disabling other addons.
Lucky! Disabled the first one on the list - Add-on Compatibility Reporter 0.9
Restart - NS reappears with all settings as pre-upgrade to 7.0

Steps to test Add-on Compatibility Reporter 0.9 producing the bug again:
Enable Add-on Compatibility Reporter 0.9
Restart Fx.
NS still listed in Addons Manager
NS icon still in nav bar.

Restarted several times. No addon misbehaviour.

First and only time any misbehaviour of any addon display or function since... I can't remember. User since 0.8.5
Installed addons:

I created an account here to post that what saywot has said is exactly what happened to me, to the letter. I followed his directions to produce the "reappear" and that also worked correctly.

This is the first time something like this has ever happened to me. The noscript add-on was not the only add-on affected though, as it also happened with my HTTPS Everywhere add-on. Very odd Firefox bug.

Hello.

Same issue here. i saw it has been filled into Bugzilla: Bug 689752 - NoScript icon disappeared from add-on manager after auto-updating to Firefox 7
Anyway it seems that this bug is maybe a dupe of Bug 680802 - Upgrade Firefox when there is an add-on update waiting to be installed uninstalls the add-on.
Bug 680802 is a blocker and auto-updates to FF7 has been stopped, see https://wiki.mozilla.org/Releases/Firef ... bug_680802

saywot, is it possible to know if your bug is the same as Bug 680802?
Maybe you can try to reproduce the bug with a new FF profile and only NoScript installed.

Hi Gallimax,
Had already read the rolling response to bug 680802--confirming for you here in this thread that my report is exactly this bug -- and seeing the developers have it well in hand, I think I'd be better to just leave my previous post here so that anxious NS users can restore their security asap.
If my opinion counted, I'd have urged the firefox team to immediately stop the auto-update offering to Fx (not the extensions)until they've got a reasonable idea that half the NS user base won't be left vulnerable on the web with no active content protection. High security error in my 2c.

A new profile had no problems loading NS. Which stands to reason, given that my default profile no longer has that problem either :-)
Better let the Fx devs work this out.

For any reading the link from bug 680802 here's the error message from the extensions.log file:

Code: Select all

2011-09-27 23:42:25 ERROR addons.xpi: Failed to add add-on {73a6fe31-595d-460b-a920-fcc0f8843232} in app-profile to database: [Exception... Since Firefox 4 is obsolete, and the last post here was almost four months ago, can this sticky now be deleted?

One user expressed concern that too many stickies clutter the board, and make current, topical ones less visible.

I agree with that viewpoint.

Thanks.

Maybe wait a little bit until standalone Firefox 3.6 is officially unsupported (end of April)?
