Help: Dolphin FF Addon Not Working

Post by nightowl »

Hi,

I need help with Dolphin (Android) Browser's desktop FF addon; it does not work at all when Noscript is installed. The add-on is to help sync bookmarks, tabs etc between Firefox, Dolphin Android and other devices, I don't know what script is behind the add-on but no amount of setting change in Noscript will make it work. I've the latest Noscript installed and the Dolphin version is 0.5. Please help, I really need both to work. Thanks!

First off please understand that the latest version of NSA++ which is built to work with Native Firefox Mobile is not necessarily intended for use elsewhere. If by some chance it installed and is breaking things, probably because it wasn't designed for the Dolphin browser, which I am familiar with, but rather or Fx Mobile (post NSA and electrolysis which was abandoned).

Second, confirm with Dolphin support if indeed they allowed the installation of NSA++, if they actually support it as well. This is not so much a NoScript issue as it is a platform/software issue and you should check with them. Although if relevant, I am sure Giorgio will make a comment.

Noscript & Dolphin add-on are both installed on DESKTOP Firefox, not the mobile version. The extension on the deskopt FF is used as gateway to connect to Dolphin Android browser for bookmark sync etc but neither add-ons are installed or needed on the mobile platform. My problem is on desktop FF, with Noscript installed, it breaks Dolphin Add-on completely. Without NS installed, Dolphin add-on sees connected devices immediately and syncs everything in the background; with NS installed, it just sits there loading in loops without getting anywhere.

OK, understood. Their idea of Fx Sync (which is horribly implemented) but if its not working, my assumption is because it uses injected code and NoScript is rightfully blocking it. Maybe Giorgio can find a way to allow it on an exception of some kind. I have already poked him to take a look at this, so be patient and we'll figure it out.

Where do I get this add-on, exactly (I'm not exactly keen to install add-ons for locations different than https://addons.mozilla.org, and I couldn't find it there).
Can you see any possibly related error message in your ec when the synchronization is supposed to happen?

Here's the link, right below the first FAQ "what are the supported platforms", choose firefox and that should install it for you.

Thanks!

I searched the forum for Dolphin Connect and found only this thread, I hope it's the latest for the issue.
In case you can make the time to check out the addon, here is the MAO link for Dolphin Connect: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... inconnect/
Version 0.6 has the same issue, breaks completely when NoScript is installed.

Thank you for all your hard work. =)

Same problem here. With NoScript disabled, I can instantly receive a link I've shared from my phone, & I can instantly send links to my phone through Firefox. But of course, with NoScript on, when I click the Dolphin Connect button, there's a constant "sync" symbol & nothing happens, and I need NoScript always on. Help.

Same issue here.

Dolphin Browser is the best and most popular third-party Android browser for a reason. It's constantly updated to stay one step ahead of all the competitors in terms of speed and functionality.

Dolphin Connect is still in beta, so while it may be clumsily implemented for now (I wouldn't know), it makes syncing between devices utterly seamless (even better than FF mobile), so will only get better and more popular as it goes along. I guarantee you'll see more and more people seeking out this forum for help.

I'm a developer too, so let me know if I can be of any help troubleshooting the problem. Thanks for looking into this!

We do, but:
  • Only Giorgio can do much about this one, and he's pretty busy, so we'll just have to wait until he gets around to it;
  • Dolphin isn't an officially-supported browser, so it's supported only on a best-effort basis.

OK, thanks for the response...by the way - not sure if this will help - the Dolphin Connect add-on creates a tunnel to http://sen.dolphin-browser.com:443. Adding this to the NoScript whitelist doesn't help.

Just a possibility: maybe it's doing something local and running into ABE? If so, then there's no easy workaround, because NSA++ doesn't yet have a graphical interface for ABE.

OK, just to clarify any possible confusion, as some replies above are mentioning the mobile NoScript addon: we aren't talking about the Android Dolphin Browser, NoScript on Android, nor any addons for the Dolphin Browser. The affected scenario is this:
  • I have Dolphin Browser on my Android. This is working perfectly fine.
  • On my desktop computer I'm running Firefox, with the NoScript desktop add-on as well as the "Dolphin Connect" desktop addon. (what this Dolphin Connect is meant to do is synchronize bookmarks and send URL links between these devices - in my case my phone with Dolphin Browser and computer with Firefox). However, NoScipt is blocking the Dolphin Connect from working (disabling it removes the problem, but it's not a solution).
The problem is in the NoScript add-on on my desktop Firefox. Thanks.
