NoScript and Freerice.com?

Post by NewtoNoScript »

Hi, all. I'm new to NoScript and having trouble with a particular site. I can't seem to get it to show ads on freerice.com no matter what I do. I know the issue is with NS because I disabled all of my add-ons one at a time and tested the site, and didn't have any problems seeing ads only when NS was disabled. I tried whitelisting freerice.com, temporarily allowing all of the page, and allowing all of the page forever. None of that seemed to make a difference, though.

My specs:
WinXP
Firefox 9.0.1
NoScript 2.2.7

Also running the following add-ons:
Adblock Plus 2.0.3
Ghostery 2.7
YouTube Video Replay 0.5

However, none of these seem to be the source of the problem. Has anyone encountered this before? What else can I do that I haven't already tried? Thanks for any help you can give me.

I'm unable to reproduce your problem. I loaded freerice.com (redirected to http://freerice.com/#/english-vocabulary/1539) on both Firefox with no extensions and Firefox with only NoScript installed. The page is displayed identically in both browser instances.
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:9.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0.1 (Windows XP SP3)
NoScript 2.2.8rc2
NoScript default settings except freerice.com is allowed.

I suggest you try a couple of things and report back:
1) Update to the very latest NoScript that the developer is using, NoScript 2.2.8rc2. latest development build
2) Disable all of your other addons at the same time, except NoScript.

By the way, precisely which things on that page are you calling ads?

Thanks for your response. I updated to the most recent version, and it sort of helped--now I can answer two or three questions while seeing the ads, but then the page starts telling me that I have ads blocked again. This happens both when I have my other add-ons enabled and when I've disabled them. Freerice.com is showing up in my list of whitelisted sites.

And the ads I'd like to have shown are the ones that pop up every time you answer a question below the question but above the "Latest on Freerice Blog," "Player Activities," and "Latest in Fight" sections, which show up just fine for me and aren't blocked.

I had to allow a couple of dozen scripts from various ad companies, otherwise it displays:
If you can see this text, you may have an ad blocker or software enabled that is preventing us from displaying the sponsored ads that are paying for the grains that you are earning. Please disable the ad blocker or software?
If want to see the ads, and you're willing to trust all of the advertising sites, then Allow Scripts Globally from the NoScript menu. Be sure to toggle that back off before you visit any untrusted sites though.
