[Resolved] Youtube video download problem

Post by George112 »

The app was awesome untill about a month ago ( a few updates). Now it works correctly only on 2% of the cases.
In most cases the download (8mb+) takes less than a second to download and it’s not playable for any media player including the best (VLC).
If vlc can’t play a file nothing can.

FlashGot last update, today 1.3.3

I used this extension only to download youtube videos but now since it doesn’t work like it should...I use online converters and download directly in a more HD format with that bitrate I want (takes more time but it’s something certain and at a higher lvl)

It was a good extension while it lasted hope you fix it somehow.

Good Luck

Could you give me some URLs where this happens and exact steps to reproduce (e.g. push the "play" button, change resolution and so on)?
Thank you.

Just press play at a default 360p no resize or anything..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmYwrE19POc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1S35THmZD_E
I see that for example if u alter the last link and add the hd extension:
&hd=1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1S35THmZD_E&hd=1
The first 25 seconds of the video are playable....the rest...

I followed your instructions step-by-step (FlashGot 1.3.4, though), and I could download 3 files:
  1. Spor_Pacifica_Kito_Reija_Lee_Vocal_Remix_mixcut.flv - 3.449KB (360)
  2. Nero_Innocence.flv - 18.886KB (360)
  3. Nero_Innocence.mp4 - 56.016KB (720)
All the 3 are fully playable, from the beginning to the end.
Are you using an external download manager?
Could you try on a clean profile with just FlashGot installed?

1.No I'm not using an external download manager
2.Yes that seems to solve it.
Thanks but isn't there a way to stop that happening in the first place?

youtube is splitting some video's into multiple chunks,

for example, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCjJyiqpAuU comes as multiple 3MB files when set to 480p

It's just a 16Mb flv for me.
Notice that if you change resolution on the fly (without reloading the page), both the original movie and the remaining of the new resolution one are displayed in the FlashGot Media menu.

Hi.
Well, YouTube actually does that on my computer (Firefox 8.0).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCjJyiqpAuU comes in 5 flv parts
plus a couple of .asx files, none of which is playable for VLC.
In fact, any video uploaded to YouTube seems now to be like that.
This started a few weeks ago I think, just before FlashGot
was uploaded to v. 1.3.4.

Any update on this? I've run into the same problem. Flashgot used to work great for downloading Youtube videos. As of a couple weeks ago, most videos are now coming to me in 3MB - 8MB chunks (size seems to depend on the resolution). This started about the time they changed Youtube's site appearance.

I realize this is probably not a Flashgot problem (aside from its video download function being rendered useless by this). But this is the only place I've found where there seem to be others who've encountered the problem. Does anyone know what's causing this, or how to stop Youtube from doing this? It's happening in regular playback too. Before I would just leave a laggy video in the background to download completely, then view it lag-free. Now I get them in chunks of a few MB so even if I leave it in the background, after a few seconds of playing it starts lagging again. It's impossible to instantaneously seek back to an arbitrary point in the video too. Whenever I seek, I have to wait for it to download again.

Funny thing is, the exact same URL in Chrome works like before. The seek bar begins to fill with grey as the entire video downloads, and I can instantaneously seek to any point.

Gah! It works fine and I can download the entire video if I turn on private browsing mode in FF. What could be causing this...

URLs of some videos that do this?

What country are in you in?

As a test, if you create a new Profile, & run it in (not safe) mode?
If you clear cookies?

Are you using or have you used a mobile device to view the clips?
Do you have a Youtube account that log into?

What are some sample actual download links (from your download manager or from flashgot.fgt.done) of the clips?

Fixed!

Apparently the behavior is linked to a cookie YouTube sets. Open up your browser's options, search for individual cookies, and delete any belonging to YouTube. (In Firefox, it's Options -> Privacy -> Show Cookies).

Next time you visit YouTube, it will default back to its original buffering behavior.

Just a quick note to say thanks. Deleting all youtube cookies resolved problem of all YT vid downloads being exactly 1740kb and unusable. Using FF 9.0.1 on Win7 x64.
Thanks again.
