Window Positions Change when FlashGot installed?

This is nothing new, it has been going on for ages.
It is only that I finally took the time to try to figure out what was causing it.

I call it, "the magic of three", because the last (relative position) window ends up being the third when you restart from Session Restore.

Just a quick note that this is resolved, at least in Aurora (SeaMonkey 2.7a2).

Hi there,

I have SeaMonkey version 2.5, Flashgot version 1.3.5 and Session Manager version 0.7.8.1 (not the latest Builds), I installed NoScript version 2.3.4. My machine- XP SP3. I saved 3 SeaMonkey windows sessions with several tabs opened. I terminated SeaMonkey fron Task Manager and when I re-started Seamonkey the 3 sessions windows were restored to the taskbar in exactly the same order they had been saved. Perhaps I was doing something wrong, but I was unable to reproduce this bug.

Originally yes, Fx, but then I realized you guys were using SM, so I used a portable copy that I carry and it worked fine without issue on that one too.

Note that when I first open SeaMonkey after putting in my copy sessionstore.json.FLASHGOT, that the windows are arranged as follows:

1) One
2) Two
3) Four
4) Poltergeist

When I Quit & reopen they are now arranged like this:

1) One
2) Two
3) Poltergeist
4) Four

There is nothing special with my sessionstore.json.FLASHGOT file, it is only that I picked four windows for it to open such that their contents would be easily recognizable. One always remains at one. Two always remains at two. Three & Four will flipflop with every quit/reopen of SeaMonkey. You can pick any four windows of your choice & should be able to see the same.

Actually it is not (necessarily) three & four, but rather three & the last window opened (so long as you have more then three opened). So if you had 18 windows opened, 3 & 18 would flipflop. If you then opened 19, 3 & 19 would flipflop (which may actually have then been 18 & 19 because what had been 18 flipped to had flipped to 3 ... Confused ).

I looked at the video and frankly I didn't see anything unusual or problematic but will point out a few things.

First, you are running in sandbox, which generally makes certain settings changes unattainable and/or modifies them per its own I/O priority.
Second, since you are doing save and quit and coming back to it, the order in which they come back is more of a browser decision and choice than a FlashGot choice. I am 99.99% confident that FG has NOTHING to do with your window order as they come back.
Finally, the order and URL of the tabs is maintained much like the windows MRU technique and the order by which they are written SHOULD be the the same as they are on the screen when you close but simply comes down to the the loop or iteration mechanism the browser uses to save it and it might throw in an extra wrench due to being sandboxed, that I am not sure. But the fact is that its retaining them all, the order is hardly a major issue and even if it was, has nothing to do with the FG addon, it would be a browser issue if anything.

IMHO, simply FG being present and this happens doesn't mean it has anything to do with it. But may Giorgio will think otherwise and can provide us his feedback, I will ask.

You didn't see the window positions switch?
Not problematic to you, as you are not affected. Perhaps not much of an issue if you only have 4 windows open. But some (hey, me) use more. Currently, 63. And when on one invocation (from Session Restore) of the browser your windows are ordered in one order, & in the next they are different, & when you are constantly opening & closing windows, it can get mighty confusing.

Only cause I'm not familiar with "Portable" apps. So safer, for me, running that way. And the only reason I used Portable is because that is what you said you ran.

In any case, I see the same sandboxed or not.

Right. It should be the browser decision. FlashGot should not be involved. But for whatever reason, it does seem to be affecting things.

And I'll argue that point.
Remove (or perhaps Disable, I'd need to check) FlashGot, & the windows come back 1, 2, 3, 4 - every time. With FlashGot, you get 1,2,3,4 then 1,2,4,3, & then back again - every time.

Again, disagree. Without FG, it works one way, with, another.
Now yes it may be, is in the end, a browser issue, but for some reason FG is having an affect.


Oh, & part (even if only a minor part ) of the reason I have so many windows is because of just this, that over time, I loose track, & end up opening a new window with some of what I had already opened, but now cannot readily find.

That's what I was trying to get across, probably didn't do a good job. Of course its problematic to you because you expect a behavior, it doesn't happen, and I respect that and I wasn't dismissing it. Also how many windows you have open or even that you use sessions restore which is a horrible thing to do from a security perspective, again your choice and no judgement there, none of mine or anyone's business frankly. I was just trying to reproduce and address the technical aspect of the issue, nothing more. SO I hope you didn't take me saying what I said, to which you "disagreed" as dismissive or not caring about our position, I was simply saying it based on the fact that with or without FG, I could NOT reproduce this issue in the manner you showed. I was however able to reproduce the wrong window orders but I got that even without FG installed on 2 out of the 10 tries I did. I got 1 out of 10 times happening WITH FG, that's why I ruled out FG as the culprit. Also the reason why I suspect the browser's saving mechanism as the issue because repeatedly it was fine but occasionally it wouldn't be and it was a clean profile, no addons at all. Again, I have tried, my results don't match yours and perhaps the techniques are different, not sure, but as promised, I have already discussed with and asked Giorgio to look into it and respond, so hopefully he will have some input on this matter.

So I put in FireShot (Webpage Screenshot in Firefox) as it throws some .exe/.dll into your Profile/extensions/ but that did not cause any problem as FlashGot does.
